Best Tomatoes I ever grew
This year I tried planting a half dozen tomatoes in large pots on the Deck. About 16 inches in diameter and as tall, with good drainage trays under them. They are doing GREAT. Bigger than I ever grew in a garden, no deer, no mud, no weeds.

Here's My Take: "Very Nice! I bet they will be the tastiest as well. I love to garden. Have you used any type of fertilizer?" MYT

Here's My Take: "I've got some miracle-gro, which had always worked well. I used a mix of good quality potting soil, some garden soil, a little bit of peat moss, and a few handfuls of chicken manure and mixed them up well. I don't think I'm going to need to use anything in addition to that. I'm going to be gone for most of the harvest of this experiment, so the people who take care of my plants are going to have a nice crop to pick. Next year, I'll probably add about 4 Roma plants, since I like to can my own sauce." MYT

Here's My Take: "I changed brands of tomatoes this year. They are Heinz tomatoes, their not that big but I have a steady supply. There is nothing better than vine ripened tomatoes. I have already harvested more than I did last year. The two things that I cannot grow onions and carrots." MYT

Here's My Take: "I have a hard time with the onions, but the carrot seem to grew pretty easy for me. As long as the soil is conditioned right, they grow well. It's got to be loose in order for the carrots to be able to plow through it. They also need water frequently. I usually water a couple times a day. Funny, because just the other day I pulled one to see if it was ready, and it was crazy. The thing was almost 2" wide, but as long as a normal carrot. I only used organic fertilizer twice. My best carrot yet, and that has been in constant 90 degree heat" MYT

Here's My Take: "My dad worked for Campbell Soup and we always had their variety, probably about like Heinz. I plant a variety of sizes and types, though I didn't plant Roma this year (will next) which are great for canning and good for eating." MYT
